Alessandra Sensini takes Mistral World title 2004 with 2 races in spare
Posted On:  24/04/2004 10:59:45

Will there be an end to Alesssandras outstanding performance in the Mistral women circiut? Who is actually gonna stop her from winning? Only 14 points out of 9 races and 36 points ahead of the Vice World Champ Barbara Kendall (NZL-62) and 50 points ahead of Bronze Medalist Faustine Merret (FRA-9)!

Once again Alessandra proved that the grande dame in the Mistral women fleet is readdy to rock and she will show no mercy when it comes to fighting for the medals.

This title is just another add to her amazing record: Gold in Sydney, Bronze in Atlanta, World Champion 2004, 2002, 2001, 1997, European Champion 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000, 1997 and countless other international top three results. I am so happy about this title especially because this worlds was a very tough regatta with strong winds and day up to 8 hours on the water. Now I am looking forward to Hyeres Week as this regatta will be our italian trials for the Olympic Games, said Alessandra back onshore. There shall be no doubt that Alessandra will be presenting Italy for the Games!

Also Fofo, formerly kown as Faustine Merret, was all smiles as she won the french selection against her rivals Lise Vidal (FRA-24) and Jeanne Mailhos (FRA-35) and will be performing at  the Games in August. Hot shot and last years World Champ Lee Korsitz (ISR-1111) finished 4th infront of Australian Allison Shreeve (AUS-911) who had a nice comeback after some bad results in the first days.

More joung guns are making news as Spanish Blanca Manchon (ESP-1) and Polish Zofia Klepecka (POL-8) got the ticket for the Games winning their trials against their team members.

The last night party was a killa event, as usual, and the mistral bunch was celebrating together until the early morning!

Five more nations have qualified for the Windsurfer Women event and subject to ISAF ratification, they are, in alphabetical order; Cyprus, Hungary, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Tunisia.

Until next time – and see you in Spa!
